Rotary International (RI), of which the Rotary Club of Dominica is a chapter, is an organization of service clubs located all over the world. The purpose of the organization is to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. Besides, Rotary International perceives literacy as critical to the advancement of peace and prosperity worldwide.

Since 1985, the international organization has promoted literacy worldwide in a full range of activities that benefited the functional illiterate, especially women, and students in formal schooling from early childhood to secondary school leavers, as well as teachers.
